Joyce Hardin Garrard, made her 9 year old granddaughter Savannah run for 3 hours without break because she had lied about stealing candy from another classmate.
Garrard’s neighbors testified in court that she made Savannah, 9, run for three hours straight, without any breaks, sometimes carrying firewood. Whenever Savannah stopped to catch her breath or even vomit, her grandmother would yell at her to get back up. “Keep running! I didn’t tell you to stop,” Garrard apparently shouted.
Savannah ended up having a seizure and was rushed to the hospital; she died a few days later. Experts said she died of prolonged physical exertion.
The judge found the 50 year old guilty of capital murder and she was sentenced to life imprisonment without possibility of parole.
We bet she feels like running herself now.
