A mother who took her 2 boys to a shady drug dealing holiday to Brazil 6 yearsago, was caught and arrested and her 2 young boys had to fend for themselves for almost 5 months in Brazilian streets before a local noticed them and alerted South African embassy, who came into their rescue.
Their mother a known drug mule was arrested in Portugal in December last year and is still in that country awaiting trial.
Then the SA Department of Social Development began the process of bringing them home.
They were placed in a safe home in Sao Paulo while the legalities were finalised.
The mother took the children to Brazil six years ago for “a holiday”.
It is believed she was a regular trafficker of drugs between Brazil and Portugal.
The younger child only speaks Portuguese. The older one speaks English and Portuguese.
Neither speaks Zulu – their home language.
Upon arrival they were taken to meet Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini before being flown to Durban to be placed in foster care with an approved family.
Spokes for the dept said they would look into finding the boys father.
